TOCCATA planning Requiem for John Lennon … from Bach to rock

Nevada Appeal Staff Report

Maestro James Rawie and Friends, a soft rock band, and the Singers of the Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus plan a musical walk down memory lane Aug. 20 when they perform the 32nd Requiem for John Lennon.

The event begins at 7:30 p.m. that Monday evening at the performance venue at Sand Harbor State Park near Incline Village. Formal title for the musical event is actually the “32nd Requiem for John Lennon … from Bach to Rock.”

TOCCATA is veering from its normal classical demeanor to relive some of John Lennon’s and the Beatles’ music, presenting it in the classical requiem format interspersed with five centuries of Mozart, madrigals, motets and folk-rock music.

Tickets for the event are $80, $42 or $25. This Aug. 20 performance is the only one scheduled and is part of the seventh Tahoe Summer MusicFest.
