TRPA closing South Tahoe office 1 day a month
STATELINE (AP) – The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency is closing its office one additional work day each month through June in an effort to save money.
TRPA spokesman Dennis Oliver says the move was made necessary primarily due to anticipated funding cutbacks from the state of Nevada. He says it will save the agency created to help protect Lake Tahoe about $100,000.
The first of six furlough days is Friday.
The agency also had a furlough week between Christmas and New Year’s to save on expenses. It cut 11 staff positions last year through layoffs, buyouts and leaving vacant positions open.
The TRPA offices on Tahoe’s south shore will also be closed Feb. 12, March 12, April 5, May 7 and June 11.
