Trustees considering land purchase for new hospital

by Susie Vasquez

The terms for Carson-Tahoe Hospital’s acquisition of 65 acres from Eagle Valley Children’s Home for a regional medical center should be made public today.

The property, just north of Eagle Valley Ranch Road, was named two weeks ago as first choice for construction of the new center, and officials are working with Eagle Valley Children’s Home, owners of the largest piece of property being considered.

A private, nonprofit foundation, Eagle Valley Children’s Home was established by the Fritsch family, according to Art Hannafin, chairman of the Home’s board.

According to Hospital Chief Executive Officer Emeritus Steve Smith, some of the acreage will be taken up by easements and covenants, reducing the usable area to about 32 acres.

Purchase of additional parcels south of the property would increase the total usable land to about 65 acres. Some of that land could be bought by private interests for development of medical office buildings, according to Smith.

In other business, officials will discuss the status of the transfer of Carson-Tahoe to a nonprofit community corporation.
