UPDATE: The victim in the fire succumbed to his injuries and died at Carson-Tahoe Regional Medical Center Thursday. The man’s name has not been released.

“We offer our condolences to the victims’ family and friends, crews worked quickly and diligently to save the man and his dog,” said Fire Chief Bob Schreihans. “With high winds it was important to contain the fire and keep it from spreading to neighboring homes, I’m proud of the men and women of the Carson City Fire Department”.

Carson City firefighters responded to a structure fire Thursday afternoon that left one person hospitalized.

The fire broke out around 1:10 p.m., at the Hot Springs Road Safari Mobile home Village, off Tiger Drive. One male was home at the time of the fire and was transported to the hospital from severe hypoxia due to smoke inhalation, said Fire Chief Bob Schreihans. A dog died on scene after firefighters attempted to save it using CPR.

The fire was extinguished around 1:48 p.m.

The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation. Carson City detectives were asked to assist fire investigators with the remainder of the investigation.
