For those who prefer not to walk through a smoky room or gaming area of a casino, there is a place with rooms available for private and holiday parties – the Carson City Senior Citizens Center.

With the addition of more than 13,000 square feet, the center has two large rooms and nine smaller rooms to accommodate nearly any request.

“We have tables and chairs, can rent linens, plates and other items,” McIntosh said. “We also have good china and silverware available. It just depends on what they want.”

The center’s two larger rooms are the Nevada Room, which is 2,063 square feet and holds up to 290 people. The Sagebrush Room is 4,919 square-feet and can hold up to 328 people. Nine other rooms vary in size from 353 to 997 square feet.

“We have had many rentals in the past year,” McIntosh said. “And have received no complaints (about the facility). Everyone has been happy.

“We’ve had lots of birthday parties, weddings, anniversaries, baptisms and quinceañeras. The majority being birthday parties. But we do not allow smoking or chewing gum inside.”

McIntosh said the kitchen is also available. The center can provide a professional caterer, its own chef Robert Baca, or the party can provide its own. A cleaning deposit is required in addition to the cost of the room. Those renting can do their own set up and clean up, or pay the center to do it.

“We request a rental application be completed and there is a $25 application fee. Then the applicant makes an appointment with Kelly Ibarra, who discusses the particulars with them.”

Alcohol may be brought in, but cannot be sold at the function. An insurance binder must also be provided.

“The money from the rentals is used to pay staff or anything related to the facility, like tables, chairs or kitchen supplies,” McIntosh said.

“We have learned a lot since we started this about a year ago. But it has really been wonderful for those looking for a nice place to have a party. It’s bright, clean and we have ample parking. Very accessible.”

For information, call the center at 883-0703 to schedule an appointment with Ibarra.
