Video: Carson City Sheriff’s officers go through firearms training
Carson City Sheriff’s officers spent four days at the gun range, working on their In-Service Training and firearms qualifications.
This training is meant to improve the officers’ skills, increase safety and perfect officer communication while in the field.
Each officer with Carson City has to go through ISTs several times a year, working on a multitude of courses to replicate scenarios they may have in the field. During the training, the officers also have to pass their firearms qualifications to make sure their skills are up to par in the field.
One of the new scenarios the officers went through is the Officer Rescue course, where deputies had to use concealment to shoot at targets as well as rescuing and applying medical treatment to the injured “officer.” They will also work on drawing and shooting their gun from their hip, shooting after getting into a physical altercation, and using concealment while identifying and shooting armed suspects.
