Weather clear enough for Santa, forecasters predict

Staff reports

The skies around Mount Rose cleared Monday afternoon over Washoe Lake. The holiday weather for Northern Nevada area is expected to be cloudy with a 20 percent chance of snow showers.

Santa Claus and his eight tiny reindeer should have no problems flying into the region tonight, according to the National Weather Service.

“It looks like he’ll be able to get in,” said Al Cox, weather service specialist.

Cox said a 20 percent chance of snow is expected today in the valley. High temperatures in the upper 30s are predicted with a partly cloudy morning turning cloudy in the afternoon.

“On Christmas Day itself, it should be mostly cloudy with a 20 percent chance of snow showers and a high near 40 degrees,” Cox said.

Santa will get out of town fast since the day after Christmas will have a chance of rain or snow with winds up to 22 mph.
