Western Nevada College News & Notes: Care Flight lands for career demonstration
The Women in Nontradi-tional Careers event at WNC began Friday morning with a landing demonstration by the crew of Care Flight. Crewmembers talked with local high school students about the daily responsibilities of their jobs, the training they receive and the service they provide to the community. Nearly 150 ninth-grade students attended the event to explore college programs and broaden their knowledge of career opportunities.
Easter Fiesta offers family fun
Celebrate spring with fun and games for children of all ages at an Easter Fiesta,
10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 3 at Rotary Plaza, Western Nevada College Carson City campus. Admission is $4 per child; proceeds help fund scholarships.
The Latino Student Club of WNC hosts the second annual event, which includes games, prizes, egg coloring and an egg hunt. Other festivities include musical chairs, bunny limbo and face painting. The WNC Wildcat mascot will be available for photos; be sure to bring a camera. For information, call 445-3344.
Substitute teachers learn methods
To help substitute teachers refine their classroom management skills, WNC is offering “Management Methods for Substitutes” from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 10 and 24. This one-credit class provides ready-to-use ideas to help K-12 teachers deal with problem behavior, classroom control and student engagement. The class covers models of discipline, attention getting signals, transition activities, and more. Cost is $68.50. To register, go to http://www.wnc.edu
Scholarship deadline approaching
The deadline to submit scholarship applications for fall 2010 and spring 2011 classes is Thursday, April 1. Students are encouraged to apply early, to maximize potential to receive scholarships and financial assistance.
Summer class schedule available
The schedule of classes for the summer term is available at http://www.wnc.edu beginning Monday, March 22. Registration for returning students begins Monday, April 5, and registration for new students begins Wednesday, April 7.
Spring break next week for students
WNC students will be on spring break next week, so hours have been shortened at the Follett Bookstore on campus. At Carson City, the bookstore will be open
10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Thursday.
