Wolf Pack’s Stassi named WAC Hitter of the Week

Nevada Wolf Pack designated hitter Brock Stassi was named the Western Athletic Conference’s Hitter of the Week on Monday.

Louisiana Tech pitcher Trevor Petersen was named the WAC’s Pitcher of the Week.

Stassi, a junior from Yuba City, Calif., hit .875 (7-for-8) to lead Nevada to a 2-1 record against UC Irvine this past weekend at peccole Park.

Stassi scored three runs and had a double, three triples, a home run and one RBI over the three games. His slugging percentage for the week was 2.125 and he finished with a .909 on-base percentage.

In the series opener on Friday against Irvine, he was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, a triple, a home run and one RBI. On Saturday, he was again perfect, going 4-for-4 with a run scored and two triples. In the finale on Sunday, he was 1-for-2 with a double and was intentionally walked twice.

Petersen, a freshman from Hallsville, Texas, earned the first ever win at the Twin’s new Target Field as he tossed 6.2 scoreless innings for the Bulldogs vs. Minnesota Saturday. He also pitched two scoreless innings vs. Grambling earlier in the week.
