Women in Business to showcase 30 vendors
More than 30 vendors will be on hand for the Professional Women in Business women’s showcase, 1-6 p.m. July 31 at Empire Ranch Golf Course.
The businesses and services showcased include art, education, hair design, baked goods, home staging, handbags, antiques, cosmetics, wine parties, spa essentials, jewelry, life coach, personal concierge, hypnotherapist and more.
Professional Women in Business, part of the Builders Association of Western Nevada, hopes to raise enough money to help its two community activities, said Jennifer Duve, who is helping to organize the event.
“For the last few years, we have been able to offer scholarships for higher education to women in business,” Duve said. “We currently offer two $500 scholarships each year to women who work for a BAWN-affiliated company. At the semester’s completion, a grade card is submitted and the awardees can use the funds however they wish.”
BAWN also sponsors a Helping Hands program.
It’s “for single female homeowners who have honey-dos and no honey to do them,” she said. “There were about 100 applicants, but we were only able to assist 13 homeowners. Some projects were simple – installing low-flow shower heads, to complex projects – reconstructing fences,” she said.
With three new members this year raising the total to nine, the Helping Hands project will be able to assist a few more women homeowners in Northern Nevada.
Vendors will provide samples and information during the fundraiser, as well as door prizes, and some will provide raffle items.
Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Each ticket includes a glass of wine and hors d’oeuvres.
