Women to Work clothing is drive stylin’
November 8, 2006
A recent clothing drive by Advocates to End Domestic Violence has filled the racks at the Classy Seconds Thrift Store boutique.
The “Women to Work” drive is held twice a year to supply clothing to women in need who are returning to the work force or going out on job interviews.
“We got several car loads of clothing, mostly from state agencies who helped us out,” said Traci Trenoweth with Advocates. “We have more still to come.”
Women receive a voucher through the Nevada Department of Employment, welfare, Child Protective Services or Job Opportunities in Nevada, then take the voucher to Classy Seconds and “shop” for two or three outfits.
“We have a good variety of sizes available, some of them are name-brand clothes. We do the drive once in the fall and once in the spring. About the time everyone starts to clean out their closets.
“The higher-end clothing goes into the back of the store to the boutique. Women can also get purses, shoes and other accessories.”

Trenoweth said Advocates is still accepting donations of new or used clothing in good condition, suitable for the work force. She can be reached at 883-7654.
“We really want to say ‘thank you,’ also to those who have helped us out.”
The program began when it was recognized that many of the women returning to the work force needed appropriate interview clothing and were unable to afford it.
The program is available to anyone in need in the community.
