Make screenwriting dream a reality
Have an original movie knocking around in your brain? Or maybe you’ve got it on paper. So now what? The Northern Nevada Film Factory has a suggestion.
Learn how to get started or what to do next at The Science of Screenwriting Workshop, 1-5 p.m., Saturday at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King St.
Dan Decker, author of the best-selling book “Anatomy of a Screenplay,” will teach the course on the science of screening. The workshop includes tips on how to write a screenplay, develop movie ideas, learn the tricks of the trade, and how to sell a script.
Decker has lectured on screenwriting and storytelling all over the country, including the Smithsonian Institute, Nickelodeon TV, scores of film festivals and writing expos, and has been a consultant on scripts to the film offices of Illinois, Virginia, Mississippi, Nevada, and Utah.
He was selected as the “Best of Chicago” in the writers category by the U.S. Commerce Association, and his writing students have sold scripts and landed writing work at major studios and television networks.
He has sold or optioned 15 of his own screenplays, none of which, ironically, has been produced. He also works in live theater and is currently the artistic director of the Las Vegas Shakespeare Company.
Cost for the afternoon workshop is $25 general admission; $15 for members of BAC, NNFF and Animator’s Club members.
