Men arrested for assault
Two Carson City men were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of an assault and invasion of a home near the 600 block of South Roop Street.
Joseph DesJardins, 44, and Miguel “Mickey” Beltran, 21, are being held on $25,000 and $20,000 respectively for beating a 27-year-old Carson City man near the 2800 block of Highway 50 on Sunday, according to the Carson City Sheriff’s Department.
Officials believe DesJardins and Beltran were engaged in an argument with the victim when they knocked him to the floor and repeatedly battered and kicked him while Beltran held a neighbor at bay with a knife.
When the neighbor left to call the sheriff’s office, the two assailants fled the residence, breaking the front window with a shovel.
Desjardins was arrested at his home on South Nevada Street at about 9 a.m. Wednesday after an investigating detective found him hiding in the backyard. Beltran was arrested near a residence on the 600 block of South Roop Street after a short but unsuccessful attempt to outrun the arresting officers.
