The year 2000 edition of Nevada Magazine’s popular Nevada Historical Calendar, which features hand-tinted, full-color cover and more than a dozen rare and historic photos, is now available.

Photos in the new calendar include: a meeting between young motorists in electric cars in front of the Las Vegas High School, which was taken in about 1917; the University Opera Company posing in costume for the opera “Olivette,” which was shot in 1900; a street scene with horses and autos, taken in Virginia City in the 1920s, the tug-of-war competition during Railroad Days in Tonopah in 1904, and students and teachers posing at the New River School in Fallon in 1900.

The photos were carefully selected from public and private photography collections throughout the state. The year 2000 Historical Calendar also contains nearly a dozen “Millennium Moments,” which are vignettes with accompanying historic photos describing significant events in Nevada history.

The calendar, which sells for $8.75, can be purchased at bookstores, gift shops, grocery stores and other retail outlets in the state, or directly from Nevada Magazine, located at 401 N. Carson St. Call, 687-5416.
