No white Christmas for Carson City but storms could hamper weekend travel

Nevada Appeal staff report

It appears unlikely Carson City will have a white Christmas but an incoming storm could affect holiday travel plans, the National Weather Service said.

“A stormy pattern is taking shape starting Christmas Day … as a pair of Pacific storms look to impact the Sierra and western Nevada over the upcoming holiday weekend into early next week,” said a Hazardous Weather Conditions alert on the NWS website (www.weather.gov).

Mountain snow and valley rain is possible Friday afternoon through Saturday morning. Travel in the Sierra could be problematic Friday evening into Saturday morning.

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for northeast California and the Lake Tahoe area, where most of the travel impacts are anticipated. Gusty winds are possible, mainly through the Sierra.

Late Sunday, a colder storm is forecast to make its way into the region.

“ While this storm could bring some snow into valley areas and the eastern Sierra, there is considerable uncertainty regarding the storm track and impacts at this time,” said the NWS statement. “If you have travel plans later in the weekend through early next week, be sure to keep a close eye on the forecast.”
