Charles Robert Schlapkohl

Charles Robert Schlapkohl, 86, a Carson City resident for most of his life, passed on August 22, 2016, after a long battle with illness.

“Chuck” was born to German immigrants in Browns Valley, Minnesota and was the youngest of 11 children. At Carson High School he played basketball, football and ran track. He was a butcher at Austin’s Market, served as a cook in the Korean War, and retired from the Nevada Highway Department, after more than 20 years of service. He enjoyed a lifetime of hunting, fishing, and family gatherings, for feasting and poker.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice; two step-children, Clay Adam Schlapkohl and Heather Newcomb; grandson Timothy Evan St. Germaine; four brothers, Hans, John “Johnny”, William “Brother Bill”, and Rudolph “Dinky” Schlapkohl; and six sisters, Marge Nelson, Rose “Rosie” Collins, Marie Leatherman, Doris Pardini, Ethel Kinkel and Irene Schulz. Among his survivors are 2 sons, James {Diane} of Carson City, and Thomas {Launa} of Golden Valley, AZ; 1 daughter, Karen St. Germaine, of Honolulu, HI; 1 step-daughter, Robin Cook of Stillwater OK; 4 grandsons, Christopher, Kenneth, Daniel and Jordan; 3 step-granddaughters, Jan Smith, Danelle Lee and Sarah Newcomb; 1 great-granddaughter Kylie; 3 step-great granddaughters, Gabrielle, Kyleigh and Mikayla; and 1 step-great grandson, Braxtyn. Also survived by many in laws, nieces and nephews. No services will be held.
