Gideon Verl Hendrix

Gideon Verl Hendrix passed away peacefully in the home of his daughter Tuesday, October 6, 2015 in Fallon, Nevada he was 93. He was born on Christmas Eve 1921 in Lund, White Pine, Nevada, to Gideon Ray Hendrix and Thora Gardner. The first eight years of Verl’s life were spent in a remote part of Nye County, known as the Sunnyside Ranch. He was the oldest of 5 children 4 of whom were born while at the ranch. His father died from pneumonia shortly before Verl’s ninth birthday. Soon after his mother sold her portion of the ranch and moved the family to Sparks NV. From Sparks they moved to Swingle Bench where they farmed for several years until they purchased the ranch in Harmon District where he lived until his death. Verl played football during high school and excelled in the FFA program under the tutelage of L.C.Schank whom he greatly admired. While In FFA he served as the national secretary of the Future Farmers of America. In 1947 he married the love of his life Martha Mae Hatch in the Logan Utah LDS Temple. The couple would later own and operate the Fallon Lodge and Nevada Bell motels. In 1994 he and his children purchased the Smith Creek Ranch a piece of Nevada he greatly loved. Verl served in numerous community and church capacities. He was a TCID board member and served as TCID president for 2 years and served as Chairman of the Churchill County Grand Jury. He enjoyed serving in numerous callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; most notable Bishop, Stake President and Stake Patriarch. He and Martha served Temple missions to the Oakland, CA Temple, Chicago IL Temple, and the Las Vegas, NV Temple. Together they served faithfully in the Reno, NV Temple as well. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Martha, sister Veloy McCray, brother Bob Hendrix and survived by sisters Carol Stewart and Delva Schank. Verl and Martha leave a long legacy for their children V. Ray Hendrix (Barbara), Wayne A. Hendrix (Sherry), Diane Hunter (Ephraim), and Elaine Adams (Mont) of Fallon NV, Bruce L. Hendrix (Jeanne) of Idaho Falls ID, 25 grandchildren, and 38 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 10, 2015 at the Church of Jesus Christ of

Latter-Day Saints, 450 N. Taylor Street, Fallon, Nevada with a viewing at 10 a.m. and services at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Fallon Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home.
