Kenneth Haskell Schell

Nov. 19, 1946 ~ April 13, 2019

Kenneth Haskell Schell, 72, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 13, 2019, after a short struggle with cancer.

Ken was born in Ventura County, CA, on November 19, 1946 to parents Haskell and Yvonne Schell. He grew up in Fillmore, CA and graduated from Santa Paula High School in 1964. After serving in the Vietnam War with the United States Marine Corps, Ken drove a truck for SP Milling Co. and raised his girls in Ventura County, CA. In 1989, he moved his family to Fallon, NV, where he retired in 2001.

Ken had been sober for 45 years and was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous. One of his most prideful accomplishments was helping others find sobriety. Ken also had a passion for ranching and his horses, and so for the past 2 decades you could find him outdoors with his animals - working cattle and spending time horseback.

Anyone fortunate enough to have met Ken was drawn in by his genuine and kind demeanor. If you were extra lucky, you’d even be granted a comical nickname. He loved to channel his hilarious sense of humor into writing “cowboy poetry” for his friends and family. And his witty, one-line comments kept those around him laughing until his very last days.

Ken is preceded in death by his son Kenneth Haskell Schell Jr. (Little Kenny). Ken is survived by his children Renee (Bruce) Martin of Fallbrook, CA, Andrea (Andrew) Carroll of Fallon, NV, Nathan Bass
of Lake City, FL.; his sister Marilyn Whisnant; his grandchildren, Krysten, Brandon, AJ, Hunter and Lily; and his companion, Lynn Broyles.

A Celebration of his Life will be held on Saturday, May 4th at 11:00am at The Gardens Funeral Home, 2949 Austin Highway in Fallon, NV.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Veterans Guest House veteransguesthouse.org/donate, or 880 Locust St. Reno, NV, 89502.

Arrangements are under the direction of The Gardens Funeral Home 2949 Austin Highway Fallon,
