William Harold (Bill) Coverley Jr.

William Harold (Bill) Coverley, Jr. passed away peacefully, March 14th at his home in Gardnerville after a 7 month battle with cancer. He was 72. Bill was born April 4, 1942 in Modesto, California to William Harold Coverley and Alice Reid Coverley. He has one brother, Jim Coverley, in Reno, Nevada. He graduated from Downey High School in Modesto in 1960, from The College of Idaho in Caldwell in 1965 with a BA degree in Education, and earned a Master’s Degree in Physiology of Exercise from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff in 1970. Bill married Sandra Ford, April 17, 1965 in Moscow, Idaho. They moved to Minden in 1967 where Bill taught science at the Junior High School and coached 7th and 8th grade basketball and track. In 1969 he began teaching science and P. E. at Douglas High School and in 1970 became the Head Football Coach. He coached the 1974 football team to the AA State Championship He retired from teaching and coaching football in 1984 to pursue a 20 year career in Insurance, joining Warren Reed Insurance as head of the Benefits Division in 1985 and retiring in 2005. Bill loved the outdoors and enjoyed hiking, backpacking and camping with his family, fly-fishing, skiing, and training and riding his horse, Abby. Bill is survived by his wife, Sandra, twin sons, Daniel James (Sarah) and Roderick William (Candee), six grandchildren, Hannah, Payson, Molly, Roderick Jr., Daniel and Jackson Coverley, his brother, Jim (Bev) and two nieces, Denise Paxton and Shawn McCusker. He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant grandsons, Patrick and Jarom Coverley. A funeral service for Bill is scheduled for Monday, March 23rd at 11:00 at the LDS Church on Mahogany Drive in Minden.
