Obituary: Lloyd E. Brown
Lloyd E. Brown passed peacefully from the arms of his beloved wife Marie into the arms of God on Friday, Nov. 5, 2010.
Lloyd was born April 13, 1920 to Walter and Dolly Brown in Muskogee, Okla. The Oklahoma Dust Bowl forced the family west to Bakersfield and later Long Beach, Calif. After Lloyd moved to Hawthorne, Nev., in the 1950s, he met the love of his life, Marie Haslett. Their marriage was an example of true love and devotion.
He excelled in math and spent many years as an accountant, controller, and later real estate broker. Yet the avocation that brought him his greatest joy was his years in ministry, especially conducting wedding ceremonies. He loved bringing two people together in love and commitment.
Lloyd spent over 50 years in community service through the Odd Fellows and Rebekah Lodge where he held numerous offices including grand patriarch and grand master of Nevada.
Lloyd was a quiet, kind man who recognized the good in each person he met. He was cheerful and optimistic by nature, shunned gossip, and was never known to speak poorly of others. He gave and received much love and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Frank; and sisters Vivian Brown and Patricia Osowski. He is survived by his beloved wife Marie; son Dan; daughters Diane Marshall (Jerry), Vivian Spiker (Randy), JoAnne Brown and Sue Fraley; grandchildren Tanya Swanson (Richard), Tammy Brown, Heather Kuhn, Cory Marshall, Robert and David Fraley; great-grandchildren Savannah, Frank and Taylor; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted by Father Jeff Paul, St. Peters Episcopal Church in Carson City on Thursday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to St. Peters Episcopal Church or to VistaCare Hospice.
