A day in the life
For the Appeal
Luke chapter 8:22-54 records a day in the life of Jesus Christ. As I read this recently in my devotional reading, I again marveled at the wonderful and amazing things Jesus does, and the unlimited power and love that attends His life and ministry.
Jesus and His disciples began the day with a boat ride across the Sea of Galilee. A storm arose and His disciples feared that they would perish and woke Jesus who was taking a nap in the back of the boat. He spoke to and calmed the wind and the waters with His words!
His disciples said in amazement: “Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!”
Shortly after their voyage ended, they encountered a man who had been demonized for a long time. This was a serious case of demon-possession, but not too serious for Jesus. He commanded the many demons to come out of the man, and the ‘Legion’ obeyed. The man was free, and began to proclaim throughout the whole city the great things Jesus had done for him.
Next, a man named Jarius came to Jesus and pleaded with Him to come to his house and pray for his 12-year-old daughter who was very sick. On the way to Jarius’ house, a woman who had been sick for 12 years came up behind Jesus and touched the hem of His garment and was instantly healed!
About the same time, news came to them that Jarius’ daughter had died so there was no longer any need for Jesus’ prayer, but Jesus continued the journey to the home. When they arrived, He told all those who were there mourning to go outside. Jesus then took the little girl’s hand and said, ‘Little girl, arise.’ And she did!
Calming the raging wind and waves with His words, freeing a man from demons that had ruled and ruined his life, healing a woman who was sick beyond what doctors of the day could heal, and raising the dead! Jesus Christ, what a Savior, what a God!
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8)
