Volunteers needed for Memory Walk

The first planning meeting for the annual Alzheimer’s Association’s Capital City Memory Walk is at noon Tuesday at the Carson City Senior Citizen’s Center, 911 Beverly Drive.

Participants are invited to bring a friend or two. Lunch is provided, however, an RSVP is requested for better planning.

Senior center to hold computer classes

The Carson City Senior Citizens Center will be offering a computer class from 9-11 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays for four weeks, and another class from 1-3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Cost is $40 and the class size is limited to eight participants on a first come, first serve basis.

Presentation on the Central Pacific

The Nevada historical Society will host a free presentation by Wendell Huffman on “How the Comstock determined the course of the Central Pacific Railroad” at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Nevada Historical Society, 1650 N. Virginia Street. For information, call 688-1190.

Presentation on Nevada’s treasurers

A presentation on the history of Nevada’s treasurers titled “The Story of Nevada’s State Treasurers: Some Were Thieves” will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Nevada State Museum. Regular admission applies.

Shade Tree Council to meet at City Hall

The Carson City Shade Tree Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Capitol Conference Room at City Hall, 201 N. Musser St. Enter the building from Musser Street.

Topics include Friday’s Arbor Day celebration, the upcoming certificate of recognition program, and selection of possible recipients for the new Treadway award for outstanding protection and restoration of trees.

Singing society meets on Thursdays

The Barbershop Harmony Society, formerly known as the Society for Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America, now meets at 7:30 p.m. every Thursday at the Carson City Senior Citizens Center, 911 Beverly Drive.

Library Board to meet to discuss budget

The Carson City Library Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Sierra Room, Community Center, 851 E. William St.

The library’s budget for the next fiscal year is among scheduled topics.

Music workshop at WNCC

A free music workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 28 at Western Nevada Community College, 2201 W. College Parkway.

The workshop is for vocal students or teachers, or any voice enthusiast. Music theory, vocal production and harmony will be presented by Jim Crowley.

NARFE Chapter 2167 Min-Gard will be meeting at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane in Gardnerville. The guest speaker will be Bob Spellberg, district manager of the Gardnerville-Ranchos General Improvement District.
