Young dancers present ‘A Year in Motion’
Danscape Academy presents “A Year in Motion” at 2 p.m. today at the Bob Boldrick Theater. Talented young dancers ages 3-8 will perform. Admission is $25, $20 and $15. For information call 786-3267.
Learn the basics of fly fishing
Stillwater Guide Service will offer a beginning fly-fishing class from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. today and July 15. The half-day class will cover the casting stroke and different casting techniques, knot tying, flies and in-depth information on fly fishing local waters. The class offers personalized instruction with only limited students per instructor. Cost is $65 with a $25 equipment use fee.

Three-course golf tournament begins
The Carson Valley Grand Slam Golf Tournament will be today through Thursday on three Carson Valley courses, Sunridge Golf Course, Carson Valley Golf Course, and the Genoa Lakes Golf Club. The tournament will feature a reception, an awards barbecue, long-drive contest, new equipment demo, optional open play or skins game, golf clinic and a hole-in-one prize presented by Club Car Inc.

Have coffee with the Labor Commissioner
In lieu of its July Chamber Breakfast Club, the Carson City Chamber of Commerce is hosting Mike Tanchek, Nevada’s labor commissioner, at 8:30 a.m. Thursday to bring members up-to-date on the new minimum wage regulations that go into effect on July 1.
The event is at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall. Cost is $5 for members and $10 for nonmembers. RSVP to 882-1565 and pay at the door.
Children’s kayaking camp offered
The Carson City Recreation Division is offering a rafting and kayaking camp for children in fifth through eighth grade. There will be paddle instruction, water safety education, river habitat stewardship and fun.
You will progress from flat-water lakes to Class I and II Rivers acquiring paddle skills and water safety experience while learning about the watershed’s history, geology, wildlife and ecology.
The camp is from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. June 25-29 Cost is $200 per participant. Extended care may be purchased for an extra $30. For information call 887-2290 ext. 101.
‘Steel Magnolias’ play moving to Piper’s
The play “Steel Magnolias” is moving to Piper’s Opera House.
Now the Gold Hill Theatre Troupe will present one last encore performance on Piper’s stage. The play begins at 2 p.m. today. The bar opens an hour before curtain.
