Carson City

Work begins Monday on gas service expansion

• Southwest Gas and Paiute Pipeline have scheduled an expansion project to begin Monday in Carson City. The project will enable the companies to continue to meet growing needs.

Work will be done in the following areas:

• East and west side of Fairview Drive from Fifth Street north to Highway 50 East.

• North and south side of Highway 50 from Fairview Drive to Arrowhead Drive.

Steps will be taken to minimize the impact of the project on the public, and interruptions in services are not planned. The project is expected to be completed by November.

Library group teams with Applebee’s for fundraiser

The Carson City Library Foundation has partnered with the local Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar in a fundraising event Monday and Wednesday. Applebee’s, 3300 S. Carson St., will donate 15 percent of customers’ tabs to the Library Foundation. Customers must present a flyer to their server in order for the Foundation to receive the 15 percent donation. The flyer applies to lunch or dinner and a separate flyer must be presented at each visit. Flyers are available at the Carson City Library, in the Friends of the Library Browsers Bookstore and at Coldwell Banker Best Sellers. Flyers can also be downloaded by visiting and clicking on “August Fundraiser.” Tax, tip and alcoholic beverages are not included in the tally for donated funds.

Kruzers meeting today at Round Table Pizza

Sponsors sought for WNC Golf Benefit

The 10th annual Western Nevada College/Greater Nevada Credit Union Golf Classic to benefit Western Nevada College is looking for sponsors and volunteers. Tee off time for the benefit will be 9 a.m., Sept. 17. All proceeds will benefit special projects at the college, and a new “poker run” will reward one golfer with a bundle of cash.

Sponsorship opportunities include featuring the organization’s name in the event program, banners at the events sponsored, event announcements and promotional materials. Library to mark Alfred Hitchcock’s birthday with film festival

Carson City Library will celebrate Alfred Hitchcock’s birthday by sponsoring a Hitchcock Film Festival beginning Monday.

The film director was born Aug. 13, 1899, in Leytonstone, England, and he passed away on April 29, 1980. His first film was produced in 1925.

Hitchcock was known for putting himself into many of his films, but not all of his films featured his cameo.

All five of the selected titles to be shown at the Library will include a Hitchcock cameo. The films will be shown Monday through Friday in the Library’s auditorium and each movie will begin at 3 p.m.

Unity Church picnic set

The Unity Church’s annual Picnic will be from 2-4 p.m. today at Lampe Park Pavilion in Gardnerville.
