Wall glazing class offered at WNC

Those interested in learning the art of wall glazing, antiquing, golf leaf, and marbling can take Special Topics: Wood Graining and Faux Finishing (CMSV 086C, call #38944, Sec. C04) on Sept. 15, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Students will have hands-on opportunities to learn from Bob Martni, a master in this craft. The cost is $100.

Museum to host lecture on collection

The Nevada State Museum has received the Hal V. Dunn exonumia collection about the Carson City Mint and Carson City history.

Exonumia is the study of coin-like objects such as token coins, medallions, medals, badges and buttons used in place of legal currency or for commemoration.

As part of the collection the Museum received the postcard collection of Dunn consisting of a wide assortment of postcards of the Carson City Mint and Carson City.

Curator of History, Bob Nylen will host a presentation entitled “The Hal Dunn Carson City US Mint Postcard Collection: A Tribute to the Carson City Mint Collector” on 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The museum is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.

Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, and free for children under 18. Call 687-4810.

Spooner Lake

Trails and Tails is today

The 12th running or walking of the Tahoe Trails and Tails to benefit the Yerington Animal Protection Society’s spay/neuter project is today at Spooner Lake State Park. There will be a 10K run, a 5K run and a two-mile walk, so there is something for everyone. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with the races starting at 9:30 a.m. What makes this event so unique is that you run or walk with your dog. The Carson City Sheriff’s Search and Rescue will be on hand to help and share in the proceeds.

Video tour of Thunderbird Lodge with Frank Ackerman

The Nevada Historical Society will present a video documentary and discussion with Frank Ackerman at noon Monday at the Nevada Historical Society, 1650 N. Virginia St.

In this video documentary viewers can tour the Thunderbird Lodge’s main house and outbuildings that reflect the work of the area’s finest craftsmen.
