Gov. Kenny Guinn has issued a proclamation declaring May to be Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month. The proclamation is a recognition of MS walks and annual awareness and fundraising events vital to the success of support programs in Northern Nevada. For information, call 1 (800) 344-4867.

Chili cooks wanted for Cinco de Mayo

Chili cooks are being sought for the Virginia City Cinco De Mayo Fiesta and ICS Chili Cookoff Saturday and Sunday.

The two-day fiesta, sponsored by the International Chili Society and the Nevada Commission on Tourism, will also include strolling mariachi musicians Saturday, piñatas for children both days and a parade Sunday.

Two Northern Nevada events are seeking craft booths. The Lyon County Fly-In and Air Fest, May 20-21 at the Silver Springs Airport in Silver Springs; and the Carson City Rendezvous, June 9-11 at Mills Park are still accepting reservations for craft and vendor booths.

Soroptimist International of Reno will hold its first Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering on Aug. 11 and 12 at Bartley Ranch Regional Park in Reno.

Sundance Bookstore in Reno to hold signings

The Sundance Bookstore in Reno, 1155 W. Fourth St., No. 106, will host two book signings. Mike White, author of “50 Classic Hikes in Nevada: From the Ruby Mountains to Red Rock Canyon” will sign at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The signing will be accompanied by a slide show .

EDAWN holds annual luncheon at John Ascuaga’s Nugget

The Reno/Sparks/Tahoe Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada will be holding its annual luncheon at 11 a.m. Tuesday at John Ascuaga’s Nugget in Sparks.
