Skit drama ministry to be presented today

New Life Drama Company will present a skit drama ministry at 6 p.m. today at First Christian Church, located at 326 E. John St. The New Life Drama Company presentation is a series of short, powerful skits that are fun and exciting and life-changing as well. Book signing and reception for new Oral History Program Tuesday

There will be a book signing and reception for two new books focusing specifically on gaming regulation in Nevada that were released by the University of Nevada Oral History Program.

This reception will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Nevada Appeal, 580 Mallory Way. Bob Faiss and Guy Farmer will be on hand to sign volumes. To RSVP or for information, call 784-6932.

Lecture on superintendent of Carson City Mint is Wednesday

The Carson City Historical Society presents “Reflections of Carson City” with a lecture by Rusty Goe, author of “The Mint on Carson Street.” He will lecture on the life of James Crawford, superintended of the Carson City Mint.

This lecture will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Carson City Library and is free and open to the public. Call 887-2244.

‘H.F. Dangberg: Nevada Pioneer’ performance at Railroad Museum

The Nevada State Railroad Museum will host Michael Fischer as he presents the Chautauqua performance of “H.F. Dangberg: Nevada Pioneer”. This event is free and begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday on the lawn of Gibson Park, just north of the museum’s main building. Call 687-6953.

‘Hot August Jazz’ will be at Comma Courtyard

The Mile High Jazz Band featuring vocalist Sheryl Adams will play at the Comma Courtyard from 8-10 p.m. Monday. Admission is $5 and $4 for members of the Mile High Jazz Band Association, and free for those 18 and under.

Michael’s hosting free Scrapbook Discovery Day today

Michael’s Arts and Crafts Store, 911 Topsy Lane, will be holding a free Scrapbook Discovery Day from 1-5 p.m. today.

There will be four free make-it take-it projects, five demonstrations and a drawing for the Grand Prize Basket, valued at more than $50. Call 267-1938.

Youth Theater Workshop in Tahoe begins Monday

Sierra Nevada Children’s Theater offers a Youth Theater Workshop for children ages 5 to 14.

Children are invited to learn performance skills in the five-day workshop beginning Monday. They will participate in the production of “Tom Sawyer” that weekend. Participants will work on acting, singing, dancing, improvisation, auditioning and other theater skills.

The sessions begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at 12:30 p.m. each day at the South Tahoe High School Theater, except Monday when the participants will have a break at 12:30 p.m. followed by casting until 2:30 p.m.
