Veterans and members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families will be admitted free to most public lands managed by the Department of the Interior and the Department of Agriculture, in honor of Veterans Day today.

This waiver of fees will be an annual event for Veterans Day.

Medical center holds warehouse closeout sale

Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center will be holding a warehouse closeout sale to get rid of excess inventory in desk units, televisions, VCR’s, filing cabinets and bookcases and low prices, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at 5055 Metric Way, suite 105.

Carson City Elk’s Lodge to hold Veterans dinner tonight

The Carson City Elk’s Lodge, 515 N. Nevada St., will be holding a Veteran’s dinner at 6 p.m. today at the lodge.

Cost is $6, but veterans with cards get in free. There will be spaghetti and meatballs, Caesar salad, cheesy garlic bread and dessert. Proceeds will be presented to the Carson City Senior Center’s Adopt a Senior Veteran in the Meals on Wheels program to help homebound veterans. Call 882-2177.

2006 Winter Extravaganza Stop and Shop is today

The 2006 Winter Extravaganza Stop and Shop will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at 4051 Lepire Dr. in Carson City. Vendors from Jafra Cosmetics, Home Interiors & Gifts, Tupperware, Cachet Candles, Cookie Lee Jewelry, Canine Creations and Tastefully Simple will be gathered for holiday shopping. There will also be raffles and prizes.

Calendars benefit V&T Railway

The 2007 V&T Railway Calendars are now available for sale. They are 11-by-17 inches and show steam trains over the years.

All proceeds go toward the V&T Railroad reconstruction effort. They are $10 each and can be obtained by e-mailing, calling 885-6833, or by mail, P.O. Box 339, Carson City, NV, 89702. They are also available at the V&T Railroad Office, 107 W. Telegraph St., 8 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday.
