Backcountry safety programs start

The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest Carson Ranger District and the Tahoe Backcountry Ski Patrol will present free backcountry safety programs this winter.

Each program runs 20-45 minutes long and will be followed by a guided educational hike that will last three hours. Kids, adults and families are welcome.

The programs will take place at 10 a.m. today, Feb. 17, and March 3 at the western end of Tahoe Meadows. For information, call 884-8122.

Artisan’s Store to hold ‘Artful Afternoon’

The Artisan’s Store at the Brewery Arts Center will hold an “Artful Afternoon” from 1-4 p.m. today with felting artist Claudia Knous. Refreshments will be served.

‘Ground Hog Hop’ at the Senior Center today

The Carson City Senior Citizens Center will be holding a senior dance from 7-10 p.m. today at the center, 911 Beverly Dr. Cost is $6 per person.

There will be a no-host bar and refreshments, with music provided by the Joe Rossi Band. Dance lessons will be provided from 6-7 p.m.

The Carson City Democratic Women’s Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. today at Grandma Hattie’s Restaurant, 2811 S. The public will have an opportunity to meet the instructors of Michael’s craft classes from 1-4 p.m. today. Michael’s offers Wilton Cake Decorating, Tole Painting, Knitting and Crocheting, Scrapbooking and Jewelry Making classes. The Silver Knights Motorcycle Club will be holding an informational meeting at 10 a.m. today at Sharkey’s in Minden.
