Local Applebee’s restaurants will be sponsoring a special “Dine In For MS” event from 4:30-9 p.m. Wednesday. Participants are asked to bring the Applebee’s flyer, obtainable through the local office of the Great Basin Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Dog obedience classes start today

Instructor Guy Yeaman will be starting his next six-week session of dog obedience classes at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Fuji Park Exhibit Hall. Dogs must be at least 4 months old and current on their shots; each dog needs a choke chain and a fabric or leather lead. Cost is $75. For information or to register, call 265-4530.

Parks and Rec meeting canceled

The regular meeting of the Carson City Parks and Recreation Commission, originally scheduled for today has been canceled. The next meeting will be March 20.

DDR Tournament at Library for teens

The Carson City Library will be hosting a Dance Dance Revolution tournament at 4 p.m. today in the library’s auditorium. Teens in seventh through 12th grades are invited to participate in this free tournament or to watch. Participants who are going to play should wear loose, but not baggy, clothing that is comfortable, and should not wear any chains of any sort. They should also wear shoes with socks. This tournament is part of Teen Tech Week. For information, call 887-2244.

Miss Carson City program is today

The Miss Carson City Scholarship Program will be holding its pageant at 7 p.m. tonight at the Carson City Community Center.

Douglas County Republican Women to meet Wednesday

Douglas County Republican Women will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Carson Valley Inn, 1627 Highway 395 North. The guest speaker is Tom Gregory, a prosecutor and assistant district attorney.

Learn to care for fruit trees at workshop

As part of the Gardening in Nevada series, Michael Janik will be holding a master gardener workshop entitled “Selecting and Caring for fruit trees” at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Bartley Ranch Regional Park in Reno. Every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the park the UNR Cooperative Extension holds a Gardening in Nevada class. Next week’s class is “Organic Soils for Healthier Plants”, and the week after is “Houseplant Heaven.” Each workshop is free and open to the public. For information, call 784-4848.
