The Arbor Day Foundation will be giving away 10 free “autumn classics” trees this month as part of its Trees for America campaign. The trees come from sugar maple, scarlet oak, sweetgum, red oak, silver maple, white dogwood, Washington hawthorn and red maple varieties. The trees are shipped postpaid at the right time for planting during Nov. 1 and Dec. 10 with instructions. The trees are guaranteed to grow or will be replaced. Carson Tahoe Auxiliary to raffle off homemade quilt

The Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare Auxiliary will raffle off a quilt made by three Auxiliary members at its April 10 luncheon. The quilt measures 80-by-80 inches and is in the thistle rose pattern in harvest colors. Tickets are $1 each or $5 for six tickets and can be purchased at the Auxiliary Gift Shop. Call 445-5142.

Library Oktoberfest volunteers needed

The Carson City Library Foundation needs volunteers to help work shifts at its annual Oktoberfest fundraiser from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday. Call 885-9807.

CASA to begin volunteer training tonight

CASA of Carson City will begin training CASA volunteers from 6:30-9:30 p.m. tonight at the Carson City Juvenile Court, 1545 E. Fifth St.

Volunteers are appointed as guardian ad litem by Carson City’s Juvenile Court to advocate for best interest of the child throughout child welfare cases when children are removed from the home due to abuse or neglect. The public is invited to attend the first class to learn more about CASA.

Childbirth education classes at Carson Tahoe

From Oct. 5-26 Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center will be holding the Childbirth Education Series from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursdays in Carson Tahoe’s Bristlecone Room. Reservations are required. Call 445-5131.

Church to hold rummage sale to benefit personal battle against cancer

A benefit rummage and bake sale will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the parking lot of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, corner of Saliman Road and Highway 50 East.

All proceeds will benefit Alicia Smalley, who is battling lymphoma. Donations are welcome and can be dropped off the morning of the sale at the church.
