Carson City

High school group to present ‘Twinderella’

Carson Performing Arts at Carson High School presents this year’s Fairytale Theatre presentation of “Twinderella” at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Carson City Community Center. There will also be special showings for schools, preschools and day-care facilities Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 9 and 10:45 a.m.

The show is a twist on Cinderella as you are introduced to Bob, Cinderella’s long-lost twin brother, and their adventures as they live in the same kingdom but with different wicked step-families.

This production is directed by Caitie Berger as her CHS senior project.

Ticket price for evening show is $3 for children/students/seniors, $5 for general admission. Carson City School District, city and state employees are admitted free. Tickets will be available at the door. Ticket price for the day-time shows is $2 for pre-booked groups. Call 887-0438.

Poets to present free writing workshop

Teresa Breeden will provide a free poetry writing workshop, “Metaphor in Poetry,” at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the auditorium of the Carson City Public Library, 900 N. Roop St.

Breeden is a member of the Ash Canyon Poets and has been writing poetry for more than half her life. She regularly reads poetry at Mile High Jazz Band’s poetry and jazz performances, has served as assistant editor for two literary journals, and has more than 30 poems published in literary publications. In 2006, she was awarded a Nevada Arts Council Fellowship for her poetry. Call 885-7594.

Parks and Rec taking applications for Residential Construction Tax

The Carson City Parks and Recreation Department is accepting applications from qualified groups for the Residential Construction Tax. This fund may only be used for the acquisition and expansion of neighborhood parks or the installation of facilities in existing parks. Applications must be completed and returned to the administration office by 6 p.m. May 31. No late applications will be accepted. Application forms can be obtained by calling 887-2262 or by visiting the Parks and Recreation Administration Office, 3303 Butti Way, Building 9.

Kat Simmons headlines Rotary show

Kat Simmons is the featured performer at the Minden Rotary’s 13th annual Comedy Tribute to Administrative Professionals 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Carson Valley Inn Shannon Ballroom. Tickets can be purchased through John Hamer at 783-6216.

Tickets are $30, which includes lunch, tax, gratuity and the comedy show. Advance reservations are a must and tables can be set aside for an entire office staff.

Shop to hold monthly designer workshops

Nono’s Home Decor in Carson City will be holding a free designer workshop at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the store, 3790 Highway 395 No. 406, near Trader Joe’s. This month there will be a hands-on demonstration on accessorizing shelving. This month’s workshop is free of charge, and light refreshments will be served. There will be a seven-week series of classes following this. Six students will be accepted and cost is $125. Call 267-1991.

Reno Rep to present classic ‘Cyrano’

Nevada Repertory Company at the University of Nevada, Reno presents the fourth production of its 2006-07 season, “Cyrano de Bergerac” by Edmond Rostand. Directed by Jim Bernardi, performances of “Cyrano de Bergerac” will be 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and May 2, 3, 4 and 5; with a matinee May 6 at 1:30 p.m.; in the University of Nevada, Reno’s Redfield Proscenium Theatre in the Church Fine Arts Building. Edmond Rostand’s celebrated heroic comedy paints a glorious portrait of 17th-century poet, wit and swordsman, Cyrano de Bergerac – famous for his panache and his ludicrously large nose.
