Firefighters hold first Pancake Breakfast

Staff Reports

The Gardnerville Volunteer Fire Department will hold its first-ever Pancake Breakfast fund-raiser and Open House from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday.

The event will be at 1255 Douglas Ave., across from the Shell Station. Every 25th person to purchase a breakfast will receive a prize and a raffle will be held every 30 minutes.

On the menu is all-you-can-eat pancakes with sausage and the choice of coffee, milk or orange juice. The open house is from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Members of the volunteer fire department will be on hand to guide the public through one of the oldest volunteer fire departments in the Carson Valley. They will explain both administrative and operation aspects of a volunteer fire department.

Equipment will also be on display, including old Dodge and Seagraves engines. Information on how the public can become volunteers will be on hand. Fire safety information will be available to the children.

Also in the interest of children is the East Fork Smoke Trailer, which is a trailer designed to give kids a realistic view of being inside a house that begins to fill with smoke and has doors that get warm to the touch. The smoke is non-toxic.

Proceeds from the event will pay for on-going station improvements, equipment needed for fire and medical related responses, the cost of incentives for members and for the cost of classes and conferences.
