Letter: Basque Festival a success
On Sept. 19, something very magical happened at Fuji Park. It was the site of the second annual St. Teresa’s Basque Festival. You may wonder why I call this event magical. I’ve been doing fund raisers of various types for all of my adult life. What makes this such a very special day for me is the combination of church, community and the ethnic heritage of the Basque community and its significant contribution to northern Nevada.
To say this event plays a significant role in the community can only be truly understood by standing in the middle of the park (Fuji) and witnessing the true community atmosphere of families, moms, dads, aunts, uncles, grandmas, grandpas; but most importantly, the children frolicking around the grass.
When people look at Carson City to live, they are looking for this same type of small town family oriented activity.
In closing, I can only be humbled by the extreme generosity of all those who gave of their hard-earned money, time and material, as well as the time given by numerous volunteers who really make this a special event.
I feel blessed to be a part of it.
