Letter: Elementary school thanks local businesses
To the editor:
Empire Elementary School had a very special Christmas this year, thanks to the thoughtfulness of many people and organizations in our community. We would like to recognize and publicly thank the following people for helping our students have a better Christmas than they would have had without their help.
To Southwest Gas in Carson City, for inviting 25 of our students to a very special Christmas party. They gave our students pizza and Santa Claus even made an appearance. He gave children everything they wished for on their wish list, including bicycles. Our students had a great time and appreciated your generosity and kindness.
To Rob Smith, owner of The Bike Smith in Carson and Dr. Richard Bessette, for donating a brand new bicycle to one of our students. The student who received this bike will enjoy it very much.
To Bonnie MayLone of the Laureate Alpha Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi for donating a large supply of hats, gloves, mittens, scarves and ear warmers. Your gifts will help students who are unable or don’t have these items to keep warm this winter.
To Kim Riggs, of the Carson City School District Homeless Advocate program, for providing us with gifts as well as help with her after school tutoring program. You are the best!
Finally, to the Gate students at Empire who put together a penny drive to help other needy students. They were able to raise $812.00 which went to buy gift certificates from Albertsons and Target to help 15 needy families in our school.
Thank you and Merry Christmas to all
