New gas pumps at Smith’s Food & Drug in Dayton

Ten shiny new gas pumps now stand at Smith’s Food & Drug in Dayton, the 29th such facility set up by the store chain.

The gas station was completed Tuesday and another is planned for the Carson City Smith’s, according to Chad D’allesandro, director of supermarket petroleum for the chain.

“It takes seven weeks to build the station once we get the approvals, but the time needed for those approvals can vary,” he said.

Customers buying $25 worth of groceries or more get a nickel off each gallon of gas purchased. That offer that draws a lot of high-mileage vehicles, like motor homes, D’allesandro said.

A grand opening for the Dayton pumps is set for next week.

Smith’s is a division of The Kroger Co., the nation’s largest retail grocery chain.
