Obituary: Dean Cheney
A funeral for Dean Cheney, 71, a Carson City resident for the past 48 years, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at FitzHenry’s Chapel of Faith.
Mr. Cheney died May 29, 2003, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. He was born Feb. 27, 1932, in Decatur, Ark., to Percy and Jewell Miller Cheney.
He owned and operated Carson Tire and Recap. He was well known and active in the community. He was the founder of Sierra Ground Rescue. He was a volunteer fireman and deputized through the Carson City Sheriff’s Department.
Mr. Cheney was injured during a rescue effort in his mid-30s, which left him partially paralyzed. Even with his disability, he maintained a cheerful attitude and was an inspiration to all who knew him.
Among his survivors are his sons Glen and Dale of Carson City and Gary of Seattle; daughter, Sandra Verniel of Las Vegas; and four grandchildren.
Cremation will be at FitzHenry’s Crematory.
Inurnment will be at Lone Mountain Cemetery.
