Rick Van Alfen: We have finally hit bottom

Rick Van Alfen

“Send them back to where they came from.” If there was still an ounce of doubt, those 28 grams have been completely removed. Donald Trump is a racist, a bigot, a xenophobe, a jingoistic, white supremacist. If you support him, you are him. If you will not deny him, then you accept him. If you will not shun him, then you embrace him. If you will not condemn him, then you approve of him. Now, take this paper and go to the nearest mirror. Look yourself in the eye. And read the third sentence again, only this time, replacing the words “Donald Trump is” with the words “am I.” Let it sink in.

Has anyone out there actually heard any of the four Trump victims of his racist assault say they hated their country? No, you can’t because it hasn’t happened. Those words, as they always do, came from our hater-in-chief. He will make every effort to put words in someone’s mouth so that his base of ignorance will actually think it came from the person he is disparaging. What I have heard is that they love this nation, so much so that they wanted to make a difference and ran for Congress in the district they lived in. Oh, gee, they were duly elected by their constituents. Imagine that. A U.S. citizen born here asked their neighbors to vote for them, and they won. AOC (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez) actually represents more people in her district than the population of nearly half a dozen states. Let that sink in as well. Ahh, but sometimes they speak their minds, strangely afforded to them by the First Amendment of our Constitution. And all I ever heard from them was how to further health care, education, the basic stuff. The only time I heard the word hate came from our bigot-in-chief.

In fact, if you go back to Trump’s campaign in 2016 and actually do some research, you will find that Trump “hated” this country. Day after day, he would say how everything was a complete mess. Everything was a disaster. The country was run by losers. Daily denigration of America. The border was a tragedy and he would make sure the Mexicans built and paid for the wall (nope). The pharmaceutical industry was a crooked mess and he would lower everyone’s drug prices (nope). The education department was a disaster run by losers and only he could fix it (nope). He would fix the disastrous infrastructure because it was a mess (nope). He would replace everyone with the best people (not even close as some are in jail for a long time). He denigrated this country so much I thought I was living in a third world s—hole.

Quoting South Carolina’s No. 1 coward and hypocrite, Lindsay Graham from 2016, “Donald Trump is a race-baiting, xenophobic, religious bigot. He does not represent my party.” Hmmm. I guess people change. I believe Ted Cruz said at the same time that Trump was a pathological liar and you could never believe a word that came out of his mouth. Again, people change. And, of course, a big change is that hate crimes have spiked since Donald the White has taken office. Oh, and let’s not forget all those bombs delivered to Democrats and those commie Hollywood lefties that he despised in his daily tweets of lies, done so by a Trump zealot in his van plastered with hateful stickers. And now, white supremacists routinely march in front of many of his venomous rallies. Because, as we all know, there are some very fine Nazis.

I will say this with firm conviction. If harm comes to any of those four duly elected congresswomen, citizens of the United States or any family member, because of the racist rhetoric that will no doubt stoke some unstable moron, the blood will be not just be on Trump’s hands but on every Republican in this nation who has refused to rebuke this deplorable and disgusting racist.
