SILVER DOLLARS AND WOODEN NICKELS: They gave all

The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.

SILVER DOLLAR: To all the law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice, giving their lives to protect us. Law enforcement officers who gave their lives in Nevada were honored during a memorial ceremony held Thursday at the State Capitol.

SILVER DOLLAR: To all those participating in National Bike Ride events this month and to organizations such as Muscle Powered for promoting bicycle riding in Carson City.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Reno High assistant coach Jordan Glover for being named as Carson High’s new boys basketball coach. Glover replaced Carlos Mendeguia, who stepped down after last season.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Carson High’s Lauren Hudak for signing to play women’s soccer at Division II Southwest Baptist University in Missouri.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Richards Crossing, Carson City’s new housing complex for veterans and other homeless citizens, for receiving accolades from the National Association of Local Housing Finance Agencies. The group recognized Nevada Rural Housing Authority, the project’s developer, with an award for excellence in the multifamily category.
