Quilt Legacy has a new home.
The professional quilting company operated for seven years by husband-and-wife team Paul Schwartz and Ruthann Bilansky out of their Dayton home is opening soon at 2311 N. Carson St. in the strip mall at the corner of Hot Springs Road.
“We want to go from word of mouth to more national business,” said Schwartz.
The couple provides custom and all over quilting services, finishing off quilts with backing, batting, and stitching for makers of the front, or top, of the quilt. Basic all over services cost .028 cents per square inch, or .018 cents for customers who provide their own batting, while custom work is charged by the hour.
“I’ve spent a hundred hours on a quilt,” said Schwartz.
The business also offers machine binding, or edging, for 17 cents per linear inch.
Schwartz does the finishing work on three long arm machines that are programmed with a wide variety of patterns for the finishing stitching. The machines are 10-, 12-, and 14-feet long, the largest capable of handling a quilt made for a king-sized bed.
“We call them papa bear, mama bear, and baby bear,” said Schwartz.
And what does it mean that they have been able to move the machines out of their house?
“We’re now parking the car in the garage,” said Bilansky.
Bilansky, who has sewn since she was a child, is the quilter and has won numerous awards for her work. She plans to offer quilting classes to learn how to cut and piece in the store.
Quilt Legacy plans to be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and by appointment on Saturday.
The business is holding its grand opening on April 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with giveaways, raffle, and refreshments.
