Roll out the red carpet " Places to go to watch the Oscars

W hether you huddle around the home television with popcorn, or gussy up for a black-tie affair, movie fans love Oscar.

Here is a look at the main attractions for Oscar night parties around the area on Sunday.

Gold Dust West

Soroptimist of Carson City welcomes everyone to enjoy a star-studded night at the Oscars. The Hollywood-style party includes red carpet, local celebrity look-a-like (that’s you), “paparazzi” photographers, and predict-the-winner contests.

Dress up as your favorite star or come in your formals. Whatever you wear, this will be an exciting night all the way to the last Oscar presentation.

Festivities begin at 5 p.m. Sunday. Cost is $25 per person and includes champagne, hors d’oeuvres and more. For tickets call Dixie Busch at 882-3051 or Barbara Gurney at 882-6392

Tahoe Arts Project at MontBleu

Tahoe Arts Project hosts An Evening with Oscar at MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa with a special big-screen viewing of the Academy Awards, five course dinner, silent auction and live entertainment.

Tahoe Arts Project, or TAP, is a bi-state, nonprofit organization that brings artists to perform at 11 schools in the region.

An Evening with Oscar begins at 4 p.m. with local celebrity Howdie Nave on the red carpet, silent auction and no-host bar in the MontBleu Theatre. The live broadcast of the Oscars begins at 5 p.m. Dinner is served at 5:30 p.m. Randy and Theresa Daggs of Dyna “Mic” Duo will emcee the event.

Costs is $65 per person, reserved tables for 10 for $700, or booths for two for $150. Tickets are on sale at the visitor centers on south shore, by calling TAP at 530?542-3632 or at the MontBleu Box Office at 800-235-8259.

Sierra Arts in Reno

Sierra Arts will give Oscar fans the opportunity to walk the red carpet at the Annual Night of Arts and Oscars Sunday at the Atlantis Casino Hotel Spa. Red carpet and pre-event cocktails will begin at 4 p.m. with the live broadcast from Hollywood starting at 5 p.m.

This chic, black-tie optional event in celebration of the 81st Annual Academy Awards will benefit the Sierra Arts Foundation. Taking place in the Atlantis Reno’s new ballroom, tickets are available through Sierra Arts for $95 per person, with $5 off for Sierra Arts members. Tables of eight are available for $725, or $700 for Sierra Arts members.

There will be a complimentary martini bar; a gourmet dinner with wine; plus a photographic memento for each guest. Several state-of-the-art, colossal televisions will surround the elegant room, broadcasting every moment of the Oscar ceremony. Don’t forget the Canister Caper and silent auction.
