Scott announces run for governor
(Appeal Capitol Bureau) – Former topless dancer Barbara Scott has decided to make another run for the Democratic nomination for governor.
She ran two terms ago and lost to Jan Jones, who was in turn defeated by Gov. Kenny Guinn.
“Not knowing much about politics at the time, my main reason for running was to help the working people get their voice heard,” she said.
Scott described herself as much more knowledgeable now, saying she learned the hard way “by helping those who called me with problems.
“I never realized how many everyday working people are struggling to make ends meet,” she said.
She said her goal now is to help those working people with problems ranging from paying rising utility bills to finding new jobs.
She said many of those she has talked to are tip earners who have trouble living on what they actually take home, while getting taxed on tips they don’t necessarily make.
The state, she said, says it has resources to help people – “until the emergency actually arises and the person doesn’t fall into the tiny criteria the agency has assigned.”
She said as governor she would work to help everyday working people of the state cope with such problems.
