Wildlife Commission to meet in Las Vegas on Nov. 18-19

According to a recent press release by the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW), a petition to reduce hunting pressure on the Overton Wildlife Management Area and an amendment to the state Elk Plan will be discussed by the Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners during their November 18 -19 meeting.

That meeting will be held at the Clark County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Pkwy. in Las Vegas.

The two-day meeting will start at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, November 18, with procedural items followed by a public comment period and a report on the Southern Nevada Water Authority’s ground water importation project.

The Commission will then hit the road to take tours of the Lake Mead Fish Hatchery and the Hoover Dam bypass.

Interested persons are invited to attend the tours, but must provide their own transportation.

The Saturday, November 19, session begins at 8:30 a.m. with a public comment period.

Other agenda items are consideration of the Overton petition which proposes to improve the quality of hunting by reducing pressure during waterfowl season and the Elk Plan amendment to modify the process used in developing local plans and future amendments.

The agenda also includes reports on the Lincoln and White Pine counties elk sub-plans, Clark County Shooting Range and the 2005 wildfire season.
