William Boyd Mitchell U.S. Veteran

William “Boyd” Mitchell, age 83, passed away on August 14, 2021, at St. George Regional Hospital in St. George, Utah, surrounded by his wife Kay and his children and their spouses: Dana & Ken Miller and Darren & Monica Mitchell.

Boyd was born in Coleman, Texas to Elizabeth Keeney and Luke Mitchell. He lived in Coleman until he joined the Army after graduating from Coleman High School. He met his wife to be, Kay Ann Turner, when they were children and kept in touch with her after she moved away when she was 12. They were married in Coleman on December 24, 1960.

Boyd and Kay eventually settled in Carson City, Nevada. Boyd spent most of his career working for the Carson City Fire Department. He retired as a captain in 1994. After retiring, Boyd and Kay moved to Lake Coleman, Texas and bought a house on the lake. Boyd enjoyed
hunting and fishing and spending time with family and friends. He especially loved his annual visits from his four granddaughters. He also volunteered at the Lake Coleman Volunteer Fire Department. In 2018 they moved to Toquerville, Utah to be closer to family and especially to his great granddaughters. Boyd and Kay were married for 60 wonderful years.

Boyd loved his family and spending time with them. He was a kind and generous man that loved helping others. He was a true patriot and flew a US Flag wherever he lived. He told family and friends not to mourn his death but to celebrate his life!

Boyd was preceded in death by his parents and three of his siblings: Shirley Ann Chapman, Richard Steve Mitchell and Michael A. Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Kay Ann Mitchell; daughter, Dana (Ken) Miller; son, Darren (Monica) Mitchell; foster son, JT (Fariba) Tanbakookar; brother, Rondoe (Gloria) Smith; sister, Beth Ann (Randy) St. Moore; six grandchildren; and two great granddaughters.
