Robert F. Krabbenhoft

August 30, 1947 - February 16, 2023

(Also known as Bobby and Bear) passed from this life into Glory on February 16, 2023. Bobby was born in Sacramento on August 30, 1947 son of Harold and Lona Le (Cook) Krabbenhoft.

The family moved to Placerville when Bobby was 5. It was here that he grew up attending the First Baptist Church. He was active in Boy Scouts and obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. This began his love for camping, just being in the outdoors and forming friendships that lasted a lifetime. Bobby served in the US Army in the late 1960’s and played in the Army Band while stationed in Europe. On his return to the states after a major motorcycle accident he was transferred to Arizona, as a Chaplain’s assistant, where his injuries did not stop from exploring the surrounding desert.

Bobby’s work history after the army kept him busy and in the wilderness. He worked for the National Forest Service, in lookouts, fighting forest fires and because his stature, (and he fit the suit) he entertained many young campers dressed as Smoky the Bear.

His family had moved to Carson City in 1969 so that is where he finally settled. He applied to the State of Nevada Department of Corrections and retired as Senior Correctional Officer after 30 years. He had a way with his “clients”, as he referred to them. He enforced the rules but had a way of seeing each client as a human being and deserving of respect.

He married and had one son, Jeffery whom he loved and instilled his passion for the outdoors. Although the marriage ended he continued to live and thrive in Carson City. He met his forever love Kris and married in 1998.

Bobby continued to explore Nevada and California mountains, fishing and poking around, until he could no longer pull himself into his truck.

Both his father, mother and a baby sister preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Kris, his son Jeff and his sister Barbara (Krabbenhoft) Kalmen, along with many family members and friends that loved him and listened to his stories of his many adventures.

There will be a small graveside service on February 28 (Tuesday) at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City NV at 1:30.
