Clara, 93, of Carson City, Nevada, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Whispering Heights Assisted Living Home, in Carson City, Nevada.
Clara was born in Carlsbad, New Mexico. She is the daughter of the late Matilde Duran Segura and late Ascension Ceballos Curiel.
Clara attended Dinuba High School in Dinuba, California. She met Frank, the love of her life, at the Assembly of God Church in Orange Cove, California. They married at the Dinuba Foursquare Church on December 24, 1949. Eventually they moved their family to San Francisco, California, to find a better life. She graduated from the Marinello School of Beauty and received her credentials to be a hairdresser. In 1964 they purchased a home in Pacifica, California, to raise their five children. She was very active managing the household and working as a part-time hairdresser. Family always took priority as she loved her family fiercely. She was devoutly religious. Her other loves were reading, music, Chanel No 5 perfume and chocolate.
She also loved to travel to visit family and was very proud of her Native American Heritage and New Mexico “roots.” Clara was an active member of Redemption Church, Carson City’s Assembly of God Church. While living in Pacifica she joined the Unidad Latina Club and served several terms as President. She loved attending Washoe Tribe Elder Center events.
She is survived by daughter Yolanda Garcia; sons Thomas Garcia, Frank Garcia Jr. and Ruben Garcia; brothers Geronimo “Jerry” Segura and Abel Segura; sisters Anita Duran and Amelia Osorio; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Clara was predeceased by mother Ascension Ceballos Curiel, father Matilde D. Segura; husband Jose Francisco “Frank” García; son Vincent Garcia, brother Adan Segura and sister Alice Segura.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12 at the Calvary Chapel in Carson City, Nevada. A reception will be held at the same location following the service.
