Doris Marie Bennett (Drost)

March 27, 1931 - January 12, 2025

Doris Marie Bennett (Drost) went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 12, 2025, at her home in Genoa, Nevada. She was born on March 27, 1931, in Bend, Oregon to William Percy and Nellie May Drost.

Doris spent her childhood years in her beloved Bend, Oregon. She graduated from Bend High School in 1949. Doris attended Junior College in Medford, OR and then graduated with a BA from San Jose State University in 1958. While attending SJSU she met D. Leon Bennett. They married in 1959 and settled in Los Altos, CA where they lived for 43 years and raised their children, Craig and Emily.

Doris was an elementary school teacher in San Mateo, Los Altos and Mountain View, CA before becoming a homemaker. She volunteered in the school and church libraries, Friends Outside, American Heart Assoc. and other community and church organizations. She cared for others deeply and was always willing to lend a hand.

During her life she was a member of the First Christian Church in Palo Alto, CA. After moving to Genoa in 2004 she became a member of the Carson Valley United Methodist Church. She loved researching and talking about genealogy. She was a lifetime member of the American Association of University of Women and Daughters of the American Revolution. Doris and Leon enjoyed trips all around the world including Germany, Japan, Alaska, Australia and several cruises including a favorite to the Panama Canal.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Leon Bennett, and her son, Craig Bennett.

She will be greatly missed by sisters, Lois Morris and Jean Drost, her daughter Emily (David) Pfaffenberger; her grandchildren, Gina (Luke) Wartgow, Maci (Eikeem) Barron, AJ Pfaffenberger, Dylan Pfaffenberger, Jaden Bennett and Julia Bennett; and her great grandchildren, Mia, Carly, and Levi Wartgow and baby Barron arriving in March 2025. She has many cousins, nieces, and nephews she loved dearly.
