John Peter Jovicich

On December 20, 2024, John Peter Jovicich passed away at the age of 87. The child of Yugoslavian immigrants, Milica and Peter Jovicich, John was born in Walker Mine, California in 1937. He grew up in Sutter Creek and Fresno California. After attending Fresno State University, John served in the U.S. Army then earned a business degree from the Thunderbird Academy. He met his beloved, Camilla Knox Jovicich, in San Francisco, married in 1966 and moved to South Lake Tahoe where they owned and ran Cecil’s Market.

John was an avid businessman and community member in South Lake Tahoe as well as in Laughlin and Gardnerville, Nevada. He was a partner in the redevelopment of South Lake Tahoe where he helped champion plans for a redevelopment effort that solidified Lake Tahoe as a world-class, spectacular destination. John was passionate in everything he did, throwing his significant energy and enthusiasm into business, family, home, and intellect. He was an avid golfer, skier, tennis and basketball player in his days. He enjoyed music, travel, language, history and politics, and most of all loved being with friends and family. He was devoted to his family and instilled a love for family in all of them as well as imparted strong beliefs about the importance of hard work and gratitude for the promise and freedom of the United States.

He was preceded in death by his wife Camilla in 2022 and his sister Elva Jovicich in 2012. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Catherine and Wister Walcott and grandchildren Sarah and Zachary, and son and daughter-in-law Michael and Teresa Jovicich as well as his sister, Vye Sheehy, and her three sons, Bill, Ted, and Tom (Brena) and many nephews and cousins. A celebration of John’s life will be held on Saturday, February 1 at 2 pm at 1 Genoa Lakes Drive, Genoa, NV.
