Nina Ann Small, 88, passed away peacefully at her home in Carson City, Nevada on Thursday, January 7, 2025.
Nina was born Nina Ann Baxter, on February 25, 1936, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, where she spent her early years. In 1958, she moved to Southern California, where she raised her family in Ventura.
After retiring, she relocated to the Carson Valley in 1992 to be near her cherished daughters.
An avid bookworm, Nina found joy in reading everything from mysteries to non-fiction and, most importantly, the Bible. Her love of reading deepened her faith, fostering the profound appreciation for Christian theology and her steadfast commitment to God.
After becoming widowed in 1998, Nina embarked on a guided tour to Israel with fellow parishioners. It was there that she met the love of her later life, Dennis Small. The two were married on February 10, 2002, and shared a devoted partnership filled with family, faith and
a shared love of travel-both domestic and international. Together, they blended their families, creating a beautiful and loving union that brought abundant joy.
Nina’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care, as well as to her devoted husband, daughters and stepdaughters, who ensured her a peaceful transition into eternal rest.
Nina has joined her predeceased grandson and is survived by her beloved husband, Dennis Small, her daughters Leslie Yered, Maria Schwartz, and Teresa (Tia) Elges, the devoted Small tribe, five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and her sister Kathy Baxter McGloin.
Services to honor Nina’s life will begin with a rosary on Friday, January 31st at 7:00 p.m. at Walton’s Funeral Home, 1281 N. Roop St. Carson City, NV 89701, followed by a Mass on Saturday, February 1st at 11:00 a.m. at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Community, 3000 N. Lompa Lane, Carson City, NV, 89706.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Nina’s name to, Gentiva Hospice Carson City, 1761 E. College Parkway, Ste. 115, Carson City, NV, 89706.
Nina’s kindness, faith, and love for her family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
