Arthur Joseph “Art” Miles

May 4, 1953 - January 8, 2025

Arthur Joseph “Art” Miles passed away Wednesday afternoon January 8, 2025, at the age of 71. After a Flight for Life helicopter transferred him from his beloved home in Eureka, Nevada, to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, his heart finally gave out.

He was born at Steptoe Hospital in East Ely, Nevada, on May 4, 1953, to Cyril Daniel Miles and Edith Virginia Miles (nee) Salvi. Art was descended from a long line of Northern Nevada Pioneer Families.

He attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School and Rancho High School in Las Vegas. Upon his Fathers promotion with the Nevada Department of Highways to the State Capital, Art finished his formal education at Carson High School, graduating in 1971. He then entered the US Army and served honorably in South Korea.

As a boy, Art participated in CYO Sports, Cub Scouts, and Boy Scouts. His Father and Uncles taught him to camp, hunt, and fish. Consequently, his love for the Nevada wilderness never wavered. He became a talented skilled craftsman, working for United Engine & Machine, and Miles Brothers Construction in the Carson City area. He also worked on the Lahontan Dam and for the Brown Brothers in Eureka.

Art was an active partner in a successful Nevada turquoise mine, which helped to foster his creative side. In addition, Art used his skills to donate many hours of his time to handyman projects for the infirm and elderly.

Tirelessly committed to fire prevention in the State of Nevada, he devoted ten years to the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department, serving five of those years as their Fire Chief. Art was predeceased by his parents and daughter Amber Miles. He is survived by his beloved wife Kathy Miles, son AJ Miles, son Fred Featheringill, daughter Vicki Featheringill, sister Mary Miles Sanderson (George Jr.), William Miles (Angela, nee Alaimo), George Miles (Julie LaCroix), John Miles (Ann, nee Hines), many nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, grandnieces and grandnephews. Art also counted his many friends as family, regaling them with tales of his exploits in the Nevada Wilderness & beyond.

A graveside service (in keeping with his love of the outdoors) will be held at Lone Mountain Cemetery, 1044 Beverly Drive, Carson City, Nevada 89706, on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 10:00 am.

Celebration of Life to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to help support Kathy and AJ at GoFundMe link: https://gofund.me/e3570de4
